During February 2016 Idecided to take 14 days off work in order to travel from Berlin to Ecuador to visit my univ flatmates (back in Spain 2007-2012) who I hadn't seen in over 3 years. We travelled across Ecuador and visited Guayaquil, Cuenca, Baños de Agua Santa, Ingapirca, Olon and Montañita. It was literally, the best experience that I have ever had in my entire life. Quito, the capital of Ecuador, sits high in the Andes and straddles the equator, making it the closest national capital to the sun. San Francisco de Quito, as this harmonious city is officially called, is all about balance. Its World Heritage protected Old Town is contrasted by its progressive New Town. The New Town, or La Mariscal, is centered on the bustling Plaza del Quinde and has markets, trendy cafés and nightlife. The Plaza de la Independencia is the Civic heart of Old Town, is overlooked by the Municipal Palace, Archbishop’s Palace and Presidential Palace. Quito has a wealth of ornate churches, including the Santo Domingo Church, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Basilica de la Merced, de San Francisco Church, the Church of the Society of Jesus and the Basilica of the National V...
Guayaquil is a beautiful and commercial city of Ecuador. Your door to the Galapagos Islands! If you are staying for more than one day in this city it is worth visiting it! . . . WELCOME TO GUAYAQUIL-ECUADOR!! . . . follow me on instagram! ecuadorian traveller!
Las Peñas was the first neighborhood in Guayaquil that was established on a 60 meter hill (Santa Ana Hill) over looking the city to defend against pirates attacks over 400 years ago. If you are visiting Guayaquil, don't miss the opportunity to view the entire city in 360 degree view at the lighthouse El Farro. Very close to the new La Perla ferris wheel and the Malecon 2000. However, to get to the top, you must climb 444 steps. Very easy and very doable if you take your time because the steps are spread out and not steep. Many restaurants, craft shops, bars, resting areas, and museums to enjoy. A great half day or full day adventure.
